Abstract

This essay has two purposes. The first explores Antonio Candido’s link to “Latin America” and the second explores the relevance of his critic for Latin American critics. For this we will review critical readings that have tried to locate the work of Candido in continental perspective and that offer us two different points of view, even opposed. One underlines the continental dialogue that the critic himself sought or intended. The other explores the power of his writing, that is, it is interested in what the reading of Candido’s work unleashed outside of Brazil. Finally, we try to explore to what dynamics respond such divergences in the critic perspectives about the criticism of Candido.
