Social Policy and knowledge production in Latin America

Authors

Abstract

Social policies have promoted unquestionable improvements in Latin America's socioeconomic indexes, even considering limitations due to the transnational capitalist system. Psychology has contributed to this process, overcoming an aseptic, neutral and ideological practice. In this sense, a scientific policy that proposes production of critical knowledge, contextualized and attentive to macrostructural determinations, is consensual. its. Exploratory research was carried out on the scientific production of Latin American Psychology on Social Policy, collecting scientific articles from a relevant multidisciplinary database to the continent. Descriptive analysis on data led to three themes of discussion: characteristics of production, authorship and analysis of themes and contents. Results point to Brazilian production hegemony, lack of international articulation and scarcity of systematic researchers in this field, although it is a potential space for reflection on theoretical-practical aspects of Psychology in social policies. It is concluded that progressive governments, focused on social policies, are insufficient if instruments and theoretical references reify social inequality they pretend to combat. Although considering limits on social policies to the end of inequality, advances in this direction require investments in knowledge production.
