Abstract

The objective of the article is to understand the problems that transgender children and adolescents have for the enjoyment of their rights to gender identity, education and health. The theoretical perspective is based on a rights approach. A mixed methodology was applied, through hermeneutical analysis of documents and the application of a questionnaire, with intentional sampling, aimed at transgender people from six to fourteen years old residing in Mexico. The results show that progress has been made in its social and legal recognition, however, in schools and health care settings, discrimination and transphobic violence are still present. It is concluded that States must adapt their legislation progressively, in terms of recognition of transgender identity, as well as establish specific and pertinent policies in the education and health care sectors
